From the grand ruins of Roman Caesarea to the Crusader halls of Acre and the breathtaking sea grottoes of Rosh Hanikra, this full-day tour weaves together conquest, faith, archaeology and natural beauty.

Caesarea

Begin at the magnificent port city built by King Herod the Great, which served as the capital of the Holy Land for six centuries. Walk through the ancient theater, seaside palace and hippodrome, discover the story of the Pilate Stone, and see the remains of one of the ancient world’s most ambitious artificial harbors.

Haifa & Acre

Continuing north, take in the spectacular Bahá’í Gardens cascading down Mount Carmel before entering the layered world of Acre.

Explore the haunting underground Crusader Knights’ Halls and a 700-year-old secret Templar tunnel that once led to the port. Discover the Akko jail, scene of one of the world’s biggest prison breaks, where Jewish fighters escaped before the creation of Israel; the synagogue of the mystical Ramchal, and the mighty walls where Napoleon’s siege was stopped in 1799.

Rosh Hanikra

Finish at Israel’s northern Mediterranean edge, where white chalk cliffs plunge into the sea. Walk through the spectacular sea grottoes carved by the waves and discover the old railway tunnel that once connected the Holy Land with Beirut and Lebanon.

Practical notes

A full day, approximately 9–10 hours, including travel. The route runs north along the Mediterranean coast from Caesarea through Haifa and Acre to Rosh Hanikra.

The day involves a moderate amount of walking, including ancient paving, steps and underground passages in Acre and Rosh Hanikra. Comfortable shoes are recommended.

Shade is limited at several stops, so bring a hat, water and sunscreen. There are plenty of opportunities for coffee and lunch along the way, particularly in Acre’s Old City and harbor.

The tour works especially well from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem and can also connect naturally with an onward stay in Haifa or the Galilee.

First-time visitors — an excellent counterpoint to Jerusalem, revealing the Mediterranean side of the country through its ancient ports, coastal cities and dramatic northern landscape.

And anyone looking for a day that combines serious history with some of Israel’s most beautiful coastal scenery.
